Congratulate Adil Karamally as the Recent Recipient of the Joe Groh Foundation Published on July 09, 2016 The Joseph Groh Foundation is an incredible organization that provides financial support to men and women in the construction industry who are living with life-altering injuries. Every year the association honors various recipients with a grant and earlier in the year the Joseph Groh Foundation was delighted to present Adil Karamally as a recipient. Adil, raised in Pakistan, earned his MBA from the University of Chicago and in 2003 purchased ProStar Mechanical Services of Anaheim, CA and earned his HVAC and general contracting license. Three years ago, Adil endured a severe stroke at the young age of 48. He lost the function of his left arm and the stroke left his left leg greatly impaired, resulting in foot drop. Because he could only walk while using a heavy brace, his muscles began to atrophy and his doctors worried that he would ultimately end up confined to a wheelchair. No longer able to work, Adil’s wife, Laila, was their sole source of income, putting financial stress on the couple with a young child in elementary and three more children in college. Their spirits were lifted when Adil was told about the WalkAid System, an apparatus that incorporates functional electrical stimulation to help someone with Adil’s condition walk again. But when they learned of the cost, Adil and Laila realized they could not afford the device in addition to the extensive rehab that would be required so he could learn how to use it. Thankfully, an employee at WalkAid directed the couple to the Joseph Groh Foundation and, due to the wonderful grant, Adil got the WalkAid System and has seen great success. His muscle is no longer showing signs of atrophy and is actually beginning to regenerate, bringing positive thoughts back to Adil and Laila.
