Common Furnace Problems in Ogden

January 09, 2017

We’ve told you about some of Ogden’s common heating and furnace problems previously, but we’re back with a few more issues that could cause your furnace to go out in the middle of this terrible cold.

Lack of Maintenance

Not only does seasonal heating maintenance help your furnace run up to 30% more efficiently and lengthen the lifespan of the equipment, it’s also expected by most manufacturers to keep up your system’s warranty. For both those reasons, you should definitely invest in annual furnace tune-ups. Catching small issues early can help stop them from becoming huge (expensive!) furnace problems.

System Wear and Tear

If you’re running your furnace all winter long to stay warm, normal wear and tear on the components is to be expected – especially in older furnaces. Wear and tear on your belts and bearings can cause the furnace to overheat or result in malfunctions with the fan motors, creating air flow problems.

Clogged Air Filters

If you use a typical furnace air filter, you should be swaping it out monthly. If you forget, it not only affects the air you breathe, the dirt and bacteria growth could cause air flow restrictions within the furnace equipment. This will mean your furnace has to work much harder to warm your home, likely putting too much strain on the components and, in turn, raising your heating bills .

Thermostat Malfunctions

Your thermostat is the appliance that tells your furnace when it’s time to turn on and fill your home with warm air, and when it’s time to stop. If the thermostat is not set or working properly, it could mean that your furnace is turning on and off every five minutes, going all day long, or not kicking on at all.
